Antennas
I recently developed by own antenna for the 10-15 meter band. I call it the MiHe 10-15 meter trapped vertical antenna.
- MiHe 10-15 Meter Trapped Vertical Antenna
- Frequency range: 21-29.7 MHz (15-meter and 10-meter bands)
- Height: 16 feet (4.9 meters)
- Trap location: Halfway up the antenna (8 feet or 2.4 meters from the base)
- Trap design: 5-inch copper coil wrapped around a 1.5-inch tube
- Radiation pattern: Omnidirectional (radiates equally in all directions)
- Gain: Moderate (around 3-5 dBd)
- SWR: Low (around 1.5:1 or better)
- Sigma Euro-Comm SE HF X80 Verticle Radial Free Antenna 6 to 80 meters
-
Frequency VSWR
3.5 MHz 80 m with Manual ATU 1.1
7 MHz 40 m with ATU 1.1
10 MHz 30 m , with ATU 1.1
14 MHz 20 m with ATU 1.1
18 MHz 17 m with Manual ATU 1.1
21 MHz 15 m with ATU 1.1
24 MHz 12 m Manual ATU 1.1
28 MHz 10 m with ATU 1.1
50 MHz 6 m with Manual ATU 1.1
- The SE HF X-80 has a gain of around 3-4 dBd (decibels relative to a dipole) on the higher frequency bands (20-10 meters).
- On the lower frequency bands (80-40 meters), the gain is typically around 2-3 dBd.
My thoughts between the two antennas?
I love them both! I am especially drawn to my home brew design "MiHe 10-15 meter Trapped Vertical Antenna" It's also the better choice for 10-21 meters.
MiHe 10-15 Meter Trapped Vertical Antenna:
- Designed specifically for 10-15 meters
- Trapped design allows for efficient operation on both bands
- Potential for higher gain on 10 meters due to the trap's resonance
- May require tuning or adjustment to optimize performance on each band
Sigma Euro-Comm SE HF X-80:
- A more general-purpose antenna covering 80-6 meters
- While it can operate on 10 and 15 meters, it's not really optimized for these specific bands
- It has a slightly lower gain on 10 meters compared to my own design the MiHe 10-15 Meter Trapped vertical Antenna.
- However, the Sigma Euro-Comm SE HF X 80 is more compact and has a more convenient design, with a wider frequency range so once could use just one antenna to cover all of the HF bands.
