About EL2BG

CQ CQ CQ, this is Eco Lima 2 Bravo Golf calling CQ and standing by. I am a Life Member and the president of the Liberia Radio Amateur Association (LRAA), a member of The River City Amateur Radio Communications Society of Sacramento, CA, and a member of North Florida Amateur Radio Society (NOFARS) of Jacksonville, Florida.

I have two additional call signs. The call signs of 9L1HR from Sierra Leone and KI6YIP from Sacramento, CA since being an operator in 1978. I now reside in Liberia, Eco Lima Land and do pro bono work for the Government and people of Liberia, West Africa. I am a civil engineer and have been working in the engineering field since 1983 and finally retired in 2020.

Details of my six-meter activity:

I try to make a commitment to be on the air every day and to spend the first and last hours of my airtime dedicated to only 6 meters. I realize that many stations will like to work me but I have a station that I will consider limited, in that I do not have access to the many tools that could allow me to have full knowledge of the openings of the band and the propagation shift, etc., meaning I mostly do not have internet access to browse the net while on the air. I do pro bono work from 0800 to 1700 Zulu and I try to operate during the times outside of that time range with some time to sleep, but shall operate anytime I am asked to do so from individuals, groups or nets, if there is available electricity or any of the resources needed to be on the air. 6 meters has now come to be my favorite band. I am soliciting any assistance from any individual, group or club to build a reasonable shack to be heard around the world.

I operate on all modes except CW since I do not have a key; moreover, I barely manage to operate on all other bands with the help of the antenna tuner with my trusted G5RV dipole.

My rig, power and antenna on 6 meters:

MY rig is the rugged and versatile YAESY FT-857 (about 20 years old I believe). The rig is designed to put out 100 Watts, but according to the antenna tuner readout, it puts out less than 100 Watts. I wish every day that one day I will be blessed to have some shoes on to boost my signal out to the rest of the world, between 500 to 800 watts should do.

My antenna system:

The antennasthat I am using at this present moment are the 6-meter 4 elements Yagi antenna 6m4DX3 – A gift from a friend who wanted to make a 6-meter contact with Eco Lima (EL) Liberia and an InnovAntennas 6 element 50MHz LFA Yagi that was donated by another group from the United Kingdom who also wanted Liberia to be heard and seen on the 6-meter band. Now I have one pointing towards the UK and the other pointing in the direction of my other
benefactor.

My working condition consists of a Yaesu FT-857, an AT-100ProII antenna tuner, a SignaLink USB integrated sound card, an Alinco DM-330FX power supply, a G5RV dipole antenna in an Inverted Vee configuration and a Harbor Freight's 80 Watt Solar Panel Kit with a 12V - 100 amp hour battery. Very modest I will say. I am looking forward for the day when I can have a directional beam and about 500W output.

I am an amateur photographer and a student pilot. I love the outdoors and enjoy travelling all over the world. That is my story and I am listening in for all the DX lovers to find me on all Bands. If I am on the air in a pileup and you realize that I have dropped out of the face of the earth because you don’t hear me anymore, it means that my power is off and my source of electricity has cut off. Please note that I use a little generator that needs to be fueled and I am out of fuel for the night; moreover, you may not get responses from me within record time because the Internet goes off for weeks on end.

Retired but not tired.
