SkySpan 20/6™

After months of experimenting, tweaking, and on-air testing, I finally built an HF antenna that has exceeded my expectations.

The SkySpan 20/6™is a homebrew inverted-V antenna featuring a 52-foot radiating element, aluminum support arms, and a custom-built 9:1 matching transformer.

While it can be matched for operation from 80 through 10 metres with an average SWR of around 1.5:1, the antenna is specifically tuned and optimized for two bands:

? 20 metres – Near-perfect 1:1 SWR across the entire band.

? 6 metres (50.000–53.000 MHz) – Near-perfect 1:1 SWR across the full amateur allocation.

The goal was never to copy an existing design. Instead, I wanted to build something practical, affordable, and effective using readily available materials. The results have been outstanding, with excellent performance on its primary bands while still providing multiband capability across HF.

This project is a reminder that some of the best amateur radio equipment isn't always bought—it can be built.
